It has been awhile; actually it has been way too long since the last time I have checked in with everyone. For those of you who do not know me, I am John Henry. My wife Kellie and I are the proud owners of John Henry’s Meats and Meinecke Farms.
I apologize for being away for so long. It seems that I can never seem to get caught up on all the chores. Harvest season took longer than expected (4 months to be exact) due to the weather and equipment break downs. We finally finished up the last of it just before Christmas. So, now is the time to re-group, clean the shop, clean the barns and chicken coop, start on a long list of equipment to repair and of course take care of taxes.
Kellie has been busy at John Henry’s and with the help of our daughter Katie they have been able to keep things together in my absence during harvest. They have developed this new website to make things easier for our customers and it seems to be working out well. I do miss the personal touch we use to have and that is the reason for this new blog page. It won’t seem as professional as the rest of the site but it will be my favorite part. I have not gotten the hang of “facebook” or “twitter”; in fact I still refuse to switch to a “smart phone”. To tell you the truth, we have had a DVD player for 2 years I still can’t figure it out.
The Forgotten Farmer,
P.S. For those of you who remember Martin (Kellie’s pet steer - that’s him on the right). He’s 6 years old now and weighs around 2400 lbs. We refer to him as the gentle beast.
